Fiber Addiction!

My partner in design and sister-in-art, Lisa, and I have a problem. We must have yarn and we can't stop. Yarn is only one of our addictions with media.

Lisa is a virtuoso with the sticks. I am a knitter of average skill, but I can compensate with trims, edging, felt embellishments, like a milliner from the 40's when hats were tricked out.

Yarn shopping is dangerous, and overwhelming. Dangerous because I spent a little over $200, Lisa spent about $100 more. Overwhelming because there was so much to take in. The last time I felt this way was when I was in Florence, Italy and went to the Uffizzi, the world renowned renaissance art museum. There was so much to see, the works, the coded messages painted into the pieces, the artists, I had to leave the museum because it was too much. that's how I felt when we went to Webs.

We made the road trip to Northampton, MA to Webs, a fantastic knitters paradise. Fibers in any imaginable weight, color & texture; roving, tools, spinning wheels, books, patterns, and samples on dress forms of beautifully made pieces. There is a huge warehouse off the back of the main floor that has all of the sales and bargains, and they are worth taking the time to go through the aisles. Naturally, they do online sales too.

Make sure you have the time to spend an hour or two in Webs, it is that big and stocked full. Make it a day trip, go to one of the many eateries in Northampton. Lisa's youngest lives there now, and my daughter graduated from Smith in '09, so we both have attachments to the town and know how much it has to offer. It is cool and cultured.

As a bonus Knitting is therapeutic, its rhythm and repetition will put you in a trance, relax you, lower your heart rate and respiration, and still your anxiety. Knitting is free medicine too. That's a fact.

So with knitting, you can get your $$ worth!
